Toni Onley (1928-2004)
Bio
Toni Onley was born in Isle of Man and came to Canada in 1948. In his lifetime he attained great fame for his West Coast serigraphs, etchings, drawings and paintings. He did do fine abstracts but what he is known for is his vision of the West Coast of Canada as a natural, still and beautifully serene place. His impact as an artist is such that natural scenes observed in his beloved British Columbia will be described as a “Toni Onley”. His work is in the collections of major museums of the world including the National Gallery of Canada, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Gallery in London.
White Sea is in the collection of the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. The image in White Sea can also be found in White Sea, an oil on masonite painting in the collection of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.
